Cactus is a common succulent plant belonging to the plant family Cactaceae. The desert-dwelling plant native to Mexico, United States, West Indies, Bermuda, and northern South America; Introduced to China in late Ming Dynasty, it is commonly cultivated in southern coastal areas. Cactus is light-loving, drought-tolerant, suitable for neutral, slightly alkaline soil growth. Usually planted as fences, stems for medicinal use, berries sweet and sour edible.
