Recently, Scientists have developed a new way to obtain ginsenosides from Panax ginseng root. Razgonova Mayya and her team from Far Eastern Federal University found that the extracted ginsenosides were significant increase during ginseng’s CO2 extraction with special pressure, temperature and modifier, and the study was published on Farmacia in 2019.

Ginsenosides, the active ingredient of ginseng, has a variety of therapeutic properties, including anti-tumor, immune regulation, regeneration and anti-diabetes, and is effective for recovery after chemotherapy. However, according to the current extraction technology, the cost of producing rare ginsenosides is very high. How much rare ginsenosides can be extracted from 100kg Panax ginseng? the answer is only 10g. so the high price of ginsenoside product and the difficulty in the extraction of highly active rare ginsenosides hinder the development of ginsenoside into anticancer drugs.

Now the technology only in the laboratory, but the new study could lead to producing more ginsenosides from extraction and lower prices in the future. In the pharmaceutical field, it makes ginsenoside available to more cancer patients, thus helping the treatment. According to the expert’s analysis, the method could be wildly used in the pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic industries as the technology will be matured.
