Ginger oil is commonly used in aromatherapy. The ginger herb oil is easy to identify because of its strong and pungent warm aroma. The oil and ginger are both used in different home remedies like nausea, common digestion problem, cold and cough, arthritis, and migraine. Many herbal skin and hair products also contain this essential oil.

Ginger oil is a bioactive phytochemicals present in the ginger rhizome. The essential oil research study findings indicate that ginger herb oil has anti-inflammatory properties and is effective in reducing basic gastric ailments like nausea, digestive disorders, etc. The topical application of the crude oil is in concentrated form. Therefore, it is suggested to dilute the concentrated ginger herb oil before topical application. The organic oil has several alternative names like Ginger Essential Oil, Zingiber Officinale, Natural Ginger Oil, Ginger Massage Oil, ginger root oil, etc.

CAS number of the oil is 8007-08-7. The density of the herb oil is 0.871 g/mL at 25 °C(lit.). Ginger oil is soluble in ethanol and produces a turbid solution. The color of herb oil is a light yellow to yellow liquid.

Constituents of ginger oil

Ginger oil obtained from dried ginger rhizome through steam distillation process contains mainly β-sesquiphellandrene (10%) and alpha-beta zingiberene (35%), Ar- Curcumin (10%), and Cumin (10%) = Gingeron. Other primary constituents present in ginger essential oil are borneol, cineol, farnesene, geraniol, methylheptenone, linalool. and sesquiterpenes.

However, the CAS number of the organic oil may change due to variation of extraction process or blending with other herbal oil, etc., as it changes the active ingredients and their concentration.

Ginger oil forms and specifications

Ginger essential oil forms and specification and yield value vary depending upon the dried or fresh rhizomes used for extraction. Moreover, the location of the collected raw material also impacts the yield value and composition of the oil. For example, ginger oil obtained in China contain α-zingiberene (29-40%), β-Sesquiphellandrene (10-14%), ar-Curcumene (5-11%), camphene (4.5-10%), β-bisabolene (2.5-9%). These values are quite a high Nigerian, Brazilian, and Australian variety.

Manufacturing companies and suppliers can ship the oil to the ordered destination through courier services like FedEx, UPS, by air, by sea. The usual package quantity is 1kg/bag, 25kg/drum.

Ginger herb oil enzymes

Ginger oil vs. nattokinase

Nattokinase is an enzyme extracted from natto. Natto is fermented soybeans used as breakfast in Japan. Nattokinase is available in different dosage forms like tablets, capsules, or powder, etc., and is primarily used as an alternative treatment for cardiovascular diseases. The molecular formula of Nattokinase is C20H23BCl2N2O9, and the CAS number is 133876-92-3.

Nattokinase breaks fibrin and prevents blood clotting. It reduces arterial plaque and improves HDL (good) cholesterol levels. In addition, the neuroprotective properties of nattokinase can prevent stroke. But Nattokinase can impact blood circulation and chemistry. Therefore, People with low blood pressure, bleeding disorders, or taking a blood thinner and antihypertensive drugs should avoid Nattokinase. But no such restriction is applicable for ginger oil. However, the herb oil also has a cholesterol-lowering effect that provides heart-healthy benefits along with neuroprotective properties and multiple disease prevention, including cancer.

Ginger oil vs. serrapeptase

Serrapeptase is a proteolytic enzyme that produces in the digestive tract of silkworms by bacterial activity. Serrapeptase has anti-inflammatory properties. CAS of serrapeptase varies from product to product. Different CAS numbers of serrapeptase are 37312-62-2, 70851-98-8, and 95077-02-4.

The molecular weight of Serrapeptase is about 52 kDa. Serrapeptase is soluble in methanol and ethanol and also freely soluble in distilled water (PBS pH7. 4).

Both ginger oil and serrapeptase are useful to reduce inflammation and associated pain symptoms. But side effect list of serrapeptase is lengthier than ginger herb oil. Some Serrapeptase users may experience joint pain, muscle soreness, stomach pain, nausea, and poor appetite, and weight loss. But the oil is an effective remedy for joint pain, nausea, digestive disorders. People with pneumonia and hemorrhages have restrictions to use serrapeptase. But no such restriction is indicated for ginger essential oil.

Ginger oil Manufacturing Process

Ethanol and dried ginger rhizomes are used to extract ginger oil through the steam distillation process.

Dried rhizomes are ground to obtain coarse powder. Then the powder is loaded into a still. Then, steam passes through the powder to extract the volatile components. After that, the steam condenses with cold water so that the oils can separate from the steam water and can be collected.

Some manufacturing companies are using the re-distillation process to yield maximum oil. Approximately yield value of ginger oil varies between 1.5% and 3%.

The residual ginger rhizome powder contains almost 50% starch that is used for animal feed. Some manufacturing companies re-use residual ginger rhizome powder to make inferior variety by drying the powder content.
